"This is not a love story" this is a fun collision of clashing personalities where sparks fly & no one gives in.

1st sentence: "This is not a love story" & you soon realize why. Katherine, a young, headstrong, stubborn, workaholic, fashionista 25 year old woman living in NY meets Dylan, a gorgeous, 28 year old arrogant Forbes billionaire business mogul who can't stand being told "No". Dylan is infatuated with Katie, who is left wondering if she is just a challenge for him to conquer. This is a fun collision of clashing personalities where sparks fly & no one seems to want to give in. This is book 1 of 2 so it ends in an intense cliffhanger.

Characters: Katie impressed me by holding her own & saying "No" to Dylan repeatedly. She sees past his beauty & recognizes his arrogance, which is far from pretty, at first. My 1st impression of Dylan: What an ass! What gives him the right to take over anyone's life? Dylan has slight Christian Grey-ish characteristics at times (minus the dom/sub fetish) but he's not a carbon-copy so it's all good. This is NOT a dom/sub story.

Keeping it real: I enjoy how Soto steers her way through unrealistic romance novel stereotypes by bringing a more realism through Katie's thoughts & comments. Katie tries so hard to keep it real. The romance develops at a more realistic rate than what we are used to in romance novels. This is refreshing. There is a perfect balance of story vs sexual content (not too little, not too much). I appreciate that not every single sexual encounter is described in detail. Sometimes, leaving it up to the reader's imagination is good too! There's a gradual buildup to the story & when it hits it's crescendo... well, I'll leave that up to you to find out!

Technical stuff: Narrated from Katie's POV. Tags & genres: Contemporary, romance, adult, fashion. Explicit sexual content. This is Carolina Soto's first work of fiction.

Intriguing take on a romance

Katherine Bianchi is a complete Type A personality. She's has a strong persona and is a perfectionist, workaholic, and control freak but really it's somewhat of a fa�ade to hid the fact that she's also imperceptibly broken and insecure. On the weekends, she has a love of junk food and television. She also loves to cuss so if that kind of language bothers you, you might want to skip this title. I, on the other hand, love to use colorful language around my nearest and dearest. For a majority of the book, Kate seems to be in control but it's fun to see it start to slip away the further in you read. In face towards the end, she really starts to reveal some submissive tendencies.

On the surface Dylan Berkeley seems like a straight forward alpha male character. As a billionaire entitled playboy, he tries to control Kate from the minute he sets eyes on her, yet she keeps rejecting him. Fortunately, he doesn't give up and continues to pursue her and really just break her down bit by bit.

There is a lot of back and forth between Katherine and Dylan. Usually in other books I kind of get fed up with too much but in this one it only adds fuel to the fire. There are some clear influences by to other popular romances however this one differs with the overall relationship between the two main characters. They have a largely tactless connection which seems to evolve throughout the story. At times they are downright horrible to each other, while other instances they seem to be a bit of kindred spirits.

There are some rough patches and seemingly disjointed phrases, however, I found this relatively easy to look past and still find the overall story enjoyable.

Fair warning, this is the first of a two book series. It does end with a surprising cliffhanger. In my mind I thought I knew who and what would come between and BAM, I was completely wrong. So now I have to wait for the second installment to see where their story goes. Overall, I find this to be an intriguing and unique enough book of what can sometimes fall prey to clich�s.

Explosive Rollercoaster

Katherine - the closed-off, self-conscious leading female whose whole life revolves around her work, parents and weekend routine filled with T.V. and junkfood.
Dylan - the equally distant, overbearing leading male with piercing Blue Eyes, never dates and has become stalkishly infatuated with the Icy Ms. Bianchi.

Two worlds collide the night Kate and her best friend Michelle meet the handsome men at dinner while on a Girl's Shopping Spree Vacation to forget Chelle's latest breakup. Dylan can't take his eyes off of Katherine and while she is drawn to his dark good looks and blue eyes, she isn't about to let her guard down. Never trusting and self-conscious of her own appearance, she blows off his attention as a play to get her into bed and nothing more. When Dylan does make his move, he comes face to face with a brick wall and then pure, hot anger at his boldness.

"He probably wanted someone to spend the night with, and I was near. Maybe he was too tired to look for someone else so he decided to take what he thought was easy. I was just the flavor of the evening, and if he lived, as I supposed, in a Ben and Jerry's universe, I was just one of the many flavors."

As hard as Kate pushes him away, he just pushes that much harder to get close. The back and forth banter was entertaining, snarky and kept you guessing where it would lead. Dylan could be so cold and distant from the rest of the world but when it involved Kate, his emotions exploded and swirled around like a hurricane. He was determined to get Kate by whatever means, pushing past all of her boundaries, to the wall of ice in her chest. Kate just as stubbornly refused that Dylan meant anything to her, friends that sometimes sleep together was all she was capable of giving him.

Things heat up and get quite intense, just when you think they are making progress, BAM - Kate is pissed and they end up three steps back. She isn't used to the daily invasion in her life but most of all, she isn't used to feeling something for someone other than her parents or two best friends. I am really rooting for Dylan in this one. I just want to shake the stubbornness out of Kate! The end will throw your emotions in utter chaos and I have to read Book 2 to find out what happens next!

Fit For Purpose

This is what the title says - for engineering students. It is not really useful for the practicing aircraft structural analyst. The mathematics presented is considerably more involved than is presented in most other airframe analysis texts, with empahsis on how stress formulae are derived. A bit over the top if all you want is to know how to analyse a practical problem, but ideal for the student who needs to know the foundations of analysis. A little bit annoying how equations are quoted by number, forcing the reader to continuously return to previous chapters.

Bad examples, NOT clear

The examples are not clear. They only show numbers with no units and do not even explain where the numbers came from. I am a student so I had to buy this book. I would not recomend buying this book unless you absolutly have to. I have seen alot of engineering books and this one is truely one of the worst.

this book is good for both undergrads and master's student how wants their fundamentals to be revised or made stronger.
This book is very well complied. The initial chapters covers the basic Structural part and part B makes us relate those things with the aircraft structures. also the examples are good and very well written,

1 month smoke free and going strong

It's true- if you are ready to quit and start a new chapter of your life but just need a kick in the butt and the voice of reason in your head, this book will help you do that. I have not smoked MJ since the day I read it. Now I'm in therapy and making life changes to help me stay sober. The strength of this book is that it gets inside the potheads brain and taps into their psychology. It teaches you to realize you ACTUALLY aren't enjoying pot anymore and that shift in your understanding will help you move away from it. I've tried self help books for addiction or quitting smoking (usually geared towards cigarettes) and none of them helped the way this simple short book did because Chris Sullivan acts like a coach, who has to yell loudly to get thru your brain fog! As a former pothead he gets it, and takes a very practical approach.

My live in boyfriend still smokes pot daily and I have only been tempted once or twice believe it or not, and I was able to move through those temptations easily. As Sullivan relates, when you realize you aren't really enjoying it - you are just acting on the memory of enjoying it- it becomes easy to quit without temptation and cravings.

Some bonuses for me of quitting pot: increased confidence, motivation, dreaming!, desire to take on more responsibility, strengthened artistic vision, better communication with my partner and huge improvement in memory.

I still have a long way to go before I feel completely stable in my recovery. It I also optimistic and feeling strong thanks to this book giving me a swift kick in the butt.

Positive Tools for Quitting for Life

I've used cannibus for 30 years -- but have quit many times. Only to start agin because I was using willpower to quit. I knew it was bad for me, but just could not resist the temptation. This book put it all in the proper perspective -- and by giving me positive tools to use, I believe I've quit for life !! I'm HAPPY TO BE FREE of this addition!! Thank you for giving me the tools to quit for good.

This book is amazing and helped me successfully quit with no desire to dabble or come back to it whatsoever. It completely changed the way I view Marijuana and helped me understand why I felt like crap every time I was without. I love that it teaches you not to use willpower but just change your perspective on the matter. It is a quick and easy read and invaluable to how it will set you free!

Chip Scanlan is a Reporting, Writing and Editing Faculty Affiliate at The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, FL. He worked as an award-winning journalist for two decades at newspapers around the country, including The Providence Journal, The St. Petersburg Times and Knight Ridder Newspapers' Washington Bureau. He is coeditor of America's Best Newspaper Writing and editor of seven editions of Best Newspaper Writing.

Richard Craig is Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at San Jos� State University. He is author of Online Journalism: Reporting, Writing and Editing for New Media. His journalistic work has appeared in the New York Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Miami Herald, San Jose Mercury News and many other publications.

A noted family therapist, author, teacher, and lecturer, she has published and presented nationally on Puerto Rican and Latino families, Latinas, ethnic intermarriage, and families with adolescents. She is Co Editor of Ethnicity and Family Therapy (3rd ed), and of The Expanded Family Life Cycle (4th ed). She also is a highly respected trainer in the area of Cultural Competence.

Useful tool for MFT's

This book did a wonderful job of transcribing the complex topic of human development across the life span into a book. I appreciated the more narrative style in which is was written and the many case study examples that are provided throughout. The book is definitely written through the multicultural and social justice lens of the authors. But this is something that I appreciated and that spoke to me. As an MFT student in graduate school, I know that I will be working with a variety of multicultural clients and the experience surrounding privilege and oppression is something that is very real in all of our lives. Like all textbooks, I read everything with a critical eye and do not take everything at face value. But I found this book to be a useful tool that provides another context of how I may be better able to understand and help my clients in the future.

The Expanding Family Life Cycle has the courage to outline the powerful role that race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and personal ability play throughout each stage of the family life cycle. While often invisible, these social factors impact families as they strive to do the hard work of transitioning throughout each life stage, all of which are concretely outlined in the book. After reading this book, I feel confident in my understanding of the expanding family life cycle and how to help families through it, while keeping an eye out for the impact that social factors may have on families who are trying to thrive.

important text for therapists

As both a former educator and a future clinical therapist, I found this text inspiring and empowering. It sensitively presents the phases of the family life cycle with intellectual rigor and grace.
So much damage is done by therapists who do not understand their clientele; this text aids in the understanding of social pressure, injustice and oppression that many in our country experience on a day to day basis. These pressures compound the challenges families and individuals will face throughout the life cycle. It is imperative future therapists understand these issues in the context of the family life cycle in order to best guide our clients through these phases. Teaching and understanding from this perspective affirms the diverse experiences of the clientele we serve here in the U.S.
There are a few grammatical errors in the text. My hope is that the editor of the next edition will catch these so they don't provide distraction to important subject matter.

As a writer you would think that would be a simple question…but it’s not. I spend so much time living in my characters heads, listening to their voices, that sometimes I forget about my own. I guess I should start with the basics: the backstory. I was born and raised in California. At this point, I’m usually asked what it was like to grow up near the beach, but sadly, I don’t know. I grew up in the “other” part of California. Perfect for an aspiring writer, if you ask me. You learn a lot about keeping yourself busy when the nearest house is a mile away…and it belongs to your grandparents. I spent all my time with my nose in a book, living vicariously through the characters, until I wrote a book of my own. I was ten at the time. It was a scintillating piece that cast the family pet as the protagonist. By the time I went to high school, I moved on to romance. Why? Because I met my very own prince charming. I wrote love poems in my journal about the green-eyed boy who stole my heart. He promised, the way all storybook heroes do, to sweep me away and take me on a grand adventure. And he did. We picked up and moved to the Lone Star State and began the story of us. The best stories begin without a road map or a compass. Veering off course makes the journey so much more interesting. True to form, just when I thought my life was set, we started the next adventure. I traded in my cowboy boots and followed my green-eyed boy to Las Vegas. My home will always be in Texas, but my heart is anywhere that he is. Our beautiful daughter made the journey with us. Our son stayed in Texas, to write his own story. Somehow, in the midst of the chaos that is our life, I find time to write. Writing is what I love. I might stray from romance every now and then if that is what moves me…but I always come back. Some of the stories don’t seem romantic at all. They are gritty stories about flawed characters that find each other and hold on tight. Those are the stories that speak to me. Because that’s life. I believe that every story should have a happy ending—even the difficult ones.

A guy's point of view!

Gone for You is a contemporary romance by Jayne Frost. This book is actually all from the point of view of the guy, which was a nice change of pace. Cameron is the guitarist in a rock band. He doesn't do relationships. He's not in the same place long enough to get close to anyone, so he is an expert on one night stands.

While staying in Dallas for a few days, he meets a woman named Lily. She's not like all the other girls that are falling at his feet. There's something about her that intrigues him. Despite being from a rich, prestigious family, Lily has her share of problems.

I liked how Lily wasn't falling for Cameron's charms in the very beginning – but I wished that would have lasted a little longer. I would have liked to see more build up and sexual tension. Especially since Lily assumed that she would just be a short fling for Cameron. I also had some trouble feeling the sparks between the two characters. Maybe because the book was fairly short so the storyline happened quickly.

It was a nice, sweet romance with some humor and steamy moments mixed it. At only 200 pages, it was a quick read. This is a stand-alone book but it looks as if it will be part of a series. I'm guessing that future books will be about the other guys in the band. If so, then I'm interested in reading more and getting to know the other characters.

A steamy read

It's books like this that is making me fall for romance novels. It was incredibly amazing and hot! There was a good storyline and a happy ending -no pun intended.

Cameron is the singer in a rock band trying to escape the media for a few days. When he goes to a resort that Lily works at, things start to change. What was intended to be a fling was turning into something else entirely. He doesn't do relationships, he's a rockstar after all but Lily may change that. He is unable to get this girl out of his head but he doesn't stop to think about what this could to do her. With a famous last name herself just being in a relationship with this sexy rocker could mean the end of her dreams. Will they both be able to make the right choices?

Of course being a rockstar romance means it was a lot like very other rockstar romance. He was a rocker that never dated but made an exception for her and they fell in love, and I loved every second of it. Maybe it was the being from Texas thing because I just pictured a sexy rocker cowboy. I don't know what it was that drew me to this book but I was so captivated by it that I finished it in one sitting.

I was absolutely rooting for Lily and Cam, who wouldn't? I mean it was pretty much a given to root for them to workout. Her having that stutter was unexpected though because usually the girls are beyond perfect in every way. It was nice that she had something that wasn't perfect about her, it made her seem more real to me.

I hated her family, especially her mother. Talking so harshly towards her in front of other people, saying her stuttering was a handicap and trying to force her to leave Cameron, was enough to make me want to punch her. She was the stereotypical rich snobby woman like Emily Gilmore was in The Gilmore Girls. But I know there always has to be someone that wants the two love birds to split and she was that person.

This was a great, fun read that had my face turning red at times. Though I'm not a huge fan on contemporary, I'm coming around to them and this book may have won me over. I highly recommend it for anyone that likes sexy rockstars and a steamy romance.

NOT For Me

Lily has a great job at a resort in Dallas. She had no idea what she was in for when this famous guitarist walks into her life. Cameron Knight looked like nothing but trouble but what was wrong with finding out just how much trouble he could be.

I'll just cut to the chase about Gone for You. I struggled with the rating on this one, I didn't know whether to give it one or two stars. Harsh, right? I just really didn't connect with ... anything ... in this book. I will say this, this story is told from the POV of Cameron Knight. It's not too often that you can find a contemporary romance novel written from a male's perspective. I was super intrigued by that. It's interesting to get into someone's head ... especially a dude's because for this character, I figured his head would be full of bong resin and hops. I was correct on the latter. There was a lot of the latter. But there would need to be for the rock and roller cliche to be complete. That also, was harsh. But I'm sorry I'm not sorry. And the reason I'm not sorry is that this book seemed to be one big cliche ... the band getting female attention, the band putting as many notches in their bedposts as they can a night, drunken hookups, the manager that is horrible ... it was all in there. I just expected more, maybe that is why I feel so let down.

I didn't really like any of the characters. They felt like they didn't have any depth ... while you're told portions about each of their backgrounds, it just isn't enough. The characters aren't fleshed out enough to make them seem even semi-real. Well, I take that back. There was one character that I really enjoyed but he literally had maybe a page total out of the whole book that was about him. The sad part is that I felt more connected to him than I did the main hero. It shouldn't be like that. I shouldn't struggle to see these characters as people.

To be honest, the whole book felt like it was written very one-dimensionally. There was conflict but it was resolved too easily, it didn't seem like real life. That's basically my whole issue with this book ... a lack of reality. I won't go on with this any more, I think you got the point. I don't think that this author is for me. Maybe she is for you though, good luck.

Nice book

It is a VERY good book for the IELTS exam preparation. It is especially helpful for the first writing assignment (diagram/graph/chart) and speaking section. However, it is not a full textbook: no CDs for listening, no texts for reading, no trial test, etc. I used this book along with several textbooks ("101 Helpful Hints for IELTS" and "Action Plan") and Cambridge practice tests (7 and 6). This books gives a rather good strategy, but it shouldn't be used alone for preparation. BTW, I got 8 score at the exam!

This is the MUST HAVE book if you are preparing yourself for IELTS. I always thought IELTS is about proficiency in English but i was wrong. IELTS is all about techniques and strategies in answering the 4 components of IELTS.

I have purchased the e-book a few months ago but didn't have time to sit in front of the computer quietly to study. With the hardcopy available now, i can bring it along wherever i go and it's really handy. It not only provides me with the necessary knowledge to sit for the IELTS but also improve my English generally. Starred Review. Russell, who has already written histories of hell and its minions (The Prince of Darkness; Mephistopheles; Satan), takes up where he left off in his 1997 book A History of Heaven. In his previous work, he offered a splendid survey of the idea of heaven up through the Middle Ages. Here, he traces the history of heaven from the 16th century through the late 20th, providing a marvelous overview of the many philosophical, literary, social, and even religious forces that have challenged the concept of heaven. Russell focuses on the Christian notion of heaven and its attendant beliefs in resurrection of the body, immortality of the soul, and angels, as well as the view of heaven as a specific place where believers will reside after death. Although in the Middle Ages, belief in such a paradise seemed secure, by the 18th century, philosophers such as Voltaire, Locke and Hume questioned the idea of a cosmos ruled by a benevolent deity as well as the existence of miracles, heaven and God. Romantic writers such as Wordsworth, Blake, Emerson and Goethe recovered heaven in the 19th century, but, as Russell points out, the Romantics' heaven was an internal one. Paradise regained

This is a magnificent work of scholarship and faith by a self-confessed 'lapsed atheist'. In concise, vigorous prose Russell summarizes the evolution of views on heaven and God from the time of the Middle Ages to the present day. Along the way he assesses the various skeptical arguments that undermined faith in heaven and a loving God and judges them at best inconclusive and at worst incoherent. His research in philosophy, history, sociology, science, literature and theology is massive and thoroughly comprehensive, demonstrating that a case for heaven need not be built on a fundamentalist appeal to Scripture or to sentiment alone. Russell gives devastating if sketchy critiques of 'physicalism' (more like scientism in general) on one hand, and Progress (as a metaphysical belief in the gradual perfection of the human race) on the other, leaving the historical Christian tradition, informed by reason, scripture and science, as the most plausible alternative. He relies heavily on the defense of the Christian faith as developed by Alvin Plantinga in "Warranted Christian Belief" as well as Hilary Putnam's critique of physicalism in "Representation and Reality", both of whom are a good step above the usual apologetic sources. Russell does not shy away from real bones of contention and admits where advances in science and philosophy have made certain questions less straightforward as they had been, but his case for heaven emerges unscathed from his immersion in the best anti-theistic polemics this age has to offer. Christians need to read this book. Liberal theology has been too dismissive of one of the great hopes and comforts that our religion has to offer. It's time to reclaim Paradise, and Russell's book is a huge step in the right direction.
