Life of Grime

"Talk of the Town" was an electrifying read. Tonya's style of writing is candid, realistic and hardcore.

Mya: hands down, is the most cold-hearted, twisted chick in Urban Literature. In one sentence, she spoke about slaughtering her enemies, in the next, settling down and starting a family.

Diamond: as much as she wants to, just can't seem to walk away from a life of crime. When she finally finds true happiness, she realizes things are not what they appear to be. She's becomes a pawn to an affluent, drug lord and stumbles deeper into the game.

Scottie: I knew dude was too good to be true. I thought he was one of the "good" guys. Boy was I wrong. One minute, you felt that Scottie was going to be "played" like a lottery ticket but it is HE who ends up a winner: Mr. Untouchable.

If you're looking for excitement from beginning to end, "Talk of the Town" will certainly deliver the goods.

I'm grateful to Tonya for discouraging me from relocating to the ATL. I'll remain right here in the boogie down Bronx. LOL

This talk WILL Leave you speechless!!

"Talk of The Town" by Tonya Ridley was a great read. There is a ton of violence in this story, but I enjoyed it anyways.
Mya and Diamond are two best friends from the hood in the ATL, Mya's dream is to get rich by shedding the blood of hustlers. Mya wants her name ringing in the ears of the hood, by robbing, killing and selling drugs.
Diamond wants to go legit and dreams of opening her own hair salon. Diamond is only setting dudes up to earn some extra cash, but that life is truly not for her.
Everything changes when Diamond falls in love with Scottie, who is a rich White/Cuban dude that is making millions. Scottie is supposed to be the next "vic" and Mya is enraged when she learns that Diamond has went against the grain. The events that follow set Atlanta on fire!!!!

Prepare to Fall in Love

I bought this book directly from the author at Women's Empowerment in 2008. There was something about the cover that just caught my attention.

The only downside of this book is that it's not long enough. I just didn't want to stop reading. I loved this book. It's funny because I had thirty pages to go and me and my then boyfriend went out to eat at Chili's and I couldn't put the book down. I mean I was literally reading it at the table instead of talking to him. I knew it was rude but I could not help it. The book was that good.

He was mad at first. But once I let him read it, he understood my obsession. And once you read it, you will too.

Peter Dauvergne is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia. He is the author of the award-winning The Shadows of Consumption: Consequences for the Global Environment (MIT Press) and other books. Jane Lister is a Senior Research Fellow at the Liu Institute. superb critique of the current corporate sustainability trend

I have been a follower and even a proponent of corporate sustainability strategy for a number of years. This book provides a cogent and important counterpoint to an increasingly strong line of thinking that we can have win-win solutions to environmental problems. I teach in the business school and have earned a graduate degree in business and I have a background in environmental science. I would say that the authors cautioning of the true motivations of corporations and we can realistically expect them to accomplish is well-founded and we should all keep it closeon the long road ahead. Without a doubt, sustainable future is not possible without corporations and big brands being a critical part of it and integrating sustainability into their business strategy and operations. But we must see that as just one part of a more holistic transformation that must involve nongovernmental organizations, civil society, government, our school systems, etc.

I would strongly recommend this book and after having read many corporate sustainability books, I think it stands alone in its critique of sustainability strategy in business. It is a cautionary tale and a very important one.

A little repetitive and confused

Are the authors for eco-business or not? They certainly make it very clear in the beginning that they are not for the big brand takeover of eco-business, but then continue to expound upon the positive effects of big brand take over of eco-business. Very quick and easy read with nifty facts tucked into each chapter on big brand takeover, but it does leave you feeling hollow and unconvinced of the authors' prognosis.

You have to be smart

It's a Turkish grammar, rather than a primer for a complete beginner.
It was written for Princeton students who must be a very intelligent bunch. Sometimes the English is hard to follow and you have to be smart to understand it.. It's full of sentences like "the infinitives - common or light- may govern the objective definite suffix , or other appropriate suffixes, on preceding substantives, just as do finite verb forms." and "the common infinitive with the following combinations of two suffixes (1) the ablative suffix (2) the conditional suffix, means....."
It may be a little out of date. It says the lira contains a hundred kurus. Maybe things move slowly in Princeton.
I think it might be helpful for someone who had learned to talk Turkish in an ungrammatical way - maybe lives in Turkey- and wanted to become more correct. There are no tapes.

seems okay but i lost interest

I lost interest halfway through this book. It's not bad, but I guess I was expecting starting with more conversational phrases instead of rules of language. There were a lot of exercises for which I would flip back to try to figure out what each word meant and occasionally get frustrated when a new word not previously defined was introduced. Sorry I didn't finish it. I will bring it on my trip though.
