About the Author
Channarayappa, received his B.Sc. (Ag.), M.Sc. (Ag.), and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He then went on to earn a second Ph.D., in Genetics and Developmental Biology from West Virginia University, USA, in 1990. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. He was the recipient of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Award for Outstanding Postgraduate Agricultural Research (1993) for significant research contribution in genetics and plant breeding, awarded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. He has been teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students of molecular biology and biotechnology courses for more than 20 years. He is the author of many scientific papers resulting from research conducted in plant sciences, mutation research, and cancer biology. He has already published a book with us: Molecular Biotechnology: Principles and Practices.

Of greatest importance is how these sculptures relate to both the art in Cambodia and that in India, and to determine what these relationships can tell us about the process (called Indianization) by which Indian culture, religion, and art were adapted in Southeast Asia.

Very well written introduction.

The book is a very well written introduction to algebraic topology. It presents the main basic results, provides geometric insights and computational tools. After reading it one really feels confident and one whishes to go further : the book really is what the title says. It is therefore perfectly suited for a first reading.

Nearly perfect introduction to point-set and algebraic topology.

Cons:
1. The new (re-issued red) edition has many new misprints.
2. The mathematical formulas might look better (they are not typed in TeX);
3. Old-fashioned notations: A-B for A\B, fg for composition f and g and so on.

About the Author
Josef Albers, one of the most influential artist-educators of the twentieth century, was a member of the Bauhaus group in Germany during the 1920s. In 1933 he came to the United States, where he taught at Black Mountain College for sixteen years. In 1950 he joined the faculty at Yale University as chairman of the Department of Design. The recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees, Albers was the first living artist ever to be given a solo retrospective at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Nicholas Fox Weber is Executive Director of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation.

For more color plates.......

Previous reviews have bemoaned a lack of color plates. I just wanted to clarify that the 2006 Revised & Expanded edition has many more than the 8 or 10 mentioned by other reviewers. In the version I purchased (2006), the back half, approx., of the book is devoted to color plates that refer back to the chapters where particular principles are discussed. The color plates are on the right leaf, and an explanation of said plate is on the left. In the margin of the left, a reference back to the chapter/section in the book is made so that further reading on each principle is easy to locate. This is perhaps a little more awkward than having the plates sprinkled within the chapter/sections themselves, but for the cost of the book, this is an entirely acceptable method of sharing both written information and visual reinforcement. I counted more than 35 plates in the book.

The best source to learn about and understand color

As an art student at Idaho State University in 1970, we used this resource as a basis for our studies. To this date, I feel it is the one book from which I learned the real meaning of color and how we perceive it and how to make it do what we want it to do in the things we create. I have never seen an approach like this, and the color studies were the ultimate learning experience for me. There's nothing like it!

excellent revised/expanded edition of the classic albers theory/anti-theory of color. the classic that most art schools continue to base their color courses on, this edition has more reproductions from the original collectors hand silkscreened edition and is nearly twice the number of pages.

I found this book to be the best coverage of *contemporary* physics topics and written in a ...

I taught from this book to junior and senior undergraduates over one semester. Of the four books I considered, I found this book to be the best coverage of *contemporary* physics topics and written in a style that physics majors would appreciate. There is a huge amount of information, so it is important to select the subtopics appropriately for the level of the class, but I found that I could design the type of course I really wanted to teach from this book without the need to supplement it with much other material. Example of some special topics in that section of my class: molecular electronics (AFM-controlled break junctions); magnetism (spintronics); photonics (electromagnetic cloaks); nanomechanics (coupled NEMS device and superconducting qubit) - plus tons of stuff in nanofluidics and biology that I didn't even get to. Where else could you get that breadth of information in a single source?

Excellent intro to nano!

This is an outstanding intro to nanotechnology. It's aimed at something like a first-year graduate student in physics, so some background is assumed, but there are brief refreshers on useful solid-state concepts. The writing style is clear and concise, helping the reader to develop intuition with respect to what happens as surface effects start to compete with the behavior of a bulk material. The depth of coverage is appropriate for a survey course on nano, and there are plenty of pointers to further reading for anyone who is interested in diving into a particular subject. All in all, this is a well-written book, and I'm sure I will find myself referring to it when I need a reminder about how something works.

It helped me with IB math!

Prior to purchasing this book I doubted whether or not that this would help me with IB math. But after I received it, I found out the problems in the book are just as do-able and helpful as any other new editions'. I received a score of 6 out of 7 for IB math. I recommend this book to those who are struggling with IB math and to those who are willing to score high on IB math as well.

Math for the International Baccalaureate Diploma

Math books usually don't change much. This edition is from 2004 but still used in various schools. It is supposed to support teachers and students because it is meant to be "suitable for self-study". It starts with a well explained repetition of the main subjects of algebra, circular functions, and trigonometry, including exercises. Then the authors jump right into calculus. Sequences, series, logarithms, matrices, vectors, probability, and statistics come next. Knowledge how to use a graphing calculator is needed, but the authors neither recommend any nor explain any procedures with them. For the exercises the answers are given, but not explained either. For a book meant for self-study this is a definite disadvantage. That's why I can't give it five stars.
