Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts

Visions are something that many have but never pursue. Hoping to find your way to success or just fulfill a lifelong dream requires motivation, support, and trust in yourself and taking what you might call a serious “Leap of faith.” When Ginny Lawthere became a best selling author little did she think that she would finally fulfill her lifelong dream of owning her own home and getting the loan needed to purchase it. Ideas come to some on a spur of the moment and rather than give up she reached out to others by creating an Ideal Life Club and hoped that she would entice people to join. An ad in the local paper did not bring a surge or responder but the four that did and would come to the meetings would provide enough impetus hopefully for success. So, the ad went in and four people from different walks of life arrived and the first club meeting begins. Hilda who works at an assisted living enjoys working with the residents teaching them and sharing her crafting skills. Jerry working at a print shop wants to become a professional musician and Lydia sparks everyone with her idea for an original recipe book that would be kid friendly. Added in Ginny who wants to own her own home and Lee who provides the paranormal flair and just wants to rid his life of his ghost problem that seems to plague each renovation job he starts the cast is set, the scene is about to begin and the club’s first meeting comes to order.

As Ginny sets out the guidelines and presents each member with their own special pen and notebook her goal is to help each one begin by writing and share his/her vision and what they hope to achieve. Step two would be their action plan or what are they going to do to achieve this goal. Small steps first and then hopefully bigger ones after. As Hilda hopes to use her crafting and share her ideas with others full time, Jerry loves writing and producing his own songs and hopes to become a star. Lydia has some great recipes and by researching more as well as adding her own the sky could be the limit. Added in just what Lee decides to do to ward off his ghosts is priceless as he just might be called upon by one of the members to use what he learns. But, things do not always go the way you want and Hilda loves working with the residents of the assisted living but when two pass away in the middle of the night that leaves one woman named Lenore in distress. Just how is she going to bring her back to life and what will the craft be that might create that spark. But, first they begin sharing their ideas at the first meeting and then each one attempts to achieve something in their action plan. As Hilda attends her first craft fair her disappoint is evident as she sells some things but does not come close to breaking even as she needs to come up with something that is unique, different and will catch on. Jerry is supposed to sing at a bookstore but never shows up but the support of the group and their encouragement brings him to sing and entertain for the residents at the assisted living. But, will he finally sing at the bookstore?

As Ginny finally gets her dream home something happens that lets her know that she just might need Lee to rid the house of what she might call her own special ghost. Bottles are moved, furniture not in the same place and other things seem to disappear. Is it a ghost or something else? But, when Ginny decides to host her family’s reunion will something or someone try to ruin it. Having to deal with rich cousin Sheila she finally can host this event but will she succeed? Lydia creates a cookbook and her PTA orders five hundred copies. Will it be a success? What about the samples she brings? Everyone can learn from reading this book just how dreams can come true, how valuable the idea was to create this club and to teach people, young adults and children that if you have a vision and create a plan you just might succeed in fulfilling your dreams.

Ginny is not the only one who sees or has a ghost. Sylvia and Wilber were residents of the assisted living and died suddenly. So, what happens when Hilda needs an idea to spring some life back into Lenore when she learns her house has been sold? Whose ghost will pave the way or guide her? Success comes only if you have faith and believe in it. A group of five people who worked together, gave each other support but when Ginny realizes that something or someone is causing havoc with the liquor bottles for a party and her furniture will she tell anyone what or who she saw? What about Lee will he admit that he saw it too? Just what happens and who is this ghost you just won’t believe?

When Lee confronts his own demons and his past will he be able to overcome them and keep going in his business? What about Lydia will she continue on with her recipes and create more cookbooks? What about Hilda? Will she continue at Country Gardens or take the plunge and do crafts full time? What about Jerry? Will he gain the confidence he needs to sing and compose his songs and perform in public? Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts: If you have a vision and a dream get out your notebook and pen write down your thoughts, create an action plan and do the research and sign on and join the Ideal Life Club when it resumes.

I loved it from the moment I picked it up

I loved it from the moment I picked it up. I had read her first book and loved it too! This one I could not put down, it was a fun ride. I loved all the new characters and hope that she will make it a series of books because I really enjoyed each and every one of them. My only complaint.....not long enough. I was sad to say farewell to my new friends. Hopefully it won't be long before I meet up with them again.

I finally got the chance too read Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts and I will tell you how surprised I was that I really loved and enjoyed this book. Now I haven't read a ghosts book for a couple of years now and I really missed reading book like this awesome book. I am so glad and happy that I accepted to read and review this book by the author because it really is great and intriguing book. It has an original, intriguing and kind of mysterious plot and concept that I thoroughly loved and enjoyed reading every minute of it. The writing styles was well written and very expressive and descriptive that it flow quite amazingly well on the page that I absolutely love reading every details in the book. And lastly the five characters were absolutely well written, developed and very confidante characters that I have ever read. There are different pov's in this book by each character but I did not mind it at all reading different pov's. I totally love to read and learn more about the main and side characters backgrounds and there life's. I really don't want to go in too much details about this awesome book. But Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts is about a fifty-eight year old single author Ginny Lawther who is happy to prove that she can still be brave and take a leap of faith…she just needs a little prodding from like-minded individuals. So Ginny starts a group called The Ideal Life Club where you set a goal or a dream you want to accomplish in your life. And when Ginny meets four hopeful strangers at the first club meeting, she thinks they’re off to a great start. Everything starts off great with the group but than mysterious and strange things starts to happen too the Ideal Lifers. Ginny and her group try to navigate through there life dreams to succeed but a strange cast of spirits who keep interrupting their endeavors. Ginny and the group do not know what the sprits want from them. But by the end of the book they figure it all out what and who are truly the sprits are that are bothering them. And I am going to leave it off here because I don't want to spoil it for anybody else, but I will tell you it was a little twist at the end of the book that I so didn't see coming everything connects by the end of the book which you will be a little surprise of. I really did love and enjoy reading Taking Leaps and Finding Ghosts that I am so glad and happy Mrs. Janet Delee gave me the chance to read and review her great book!

Great text! Just horrendous on kindle.

This review is for the kindle version!

I'm currently a CA-1 (1st year anesthesiology resident) who needed a good read to not look stupid preparing for my case the next day with my attending. For that, it's great! It goes over all the possible complications, the types of blocks and anesthesia that can be used, common concerns, positioning, etc that will make you look prepared and able to answer most of the basic questions you'll be pimped on about the case. It also covers almost EVERY type of surgery that you'll encounter as a CA-1 and even as just an anesthesiologist. For the text itself, I give it 4 stars. I don't give it 5 because some of the recommendations may not apply at your institution. For instance, it'll recommend placing an epidural or a peripheral catheter for a case. At my institution, we have a policy where no catheters are to be placed pre-op or intra-op, so although those options may not by explicitly useful, you can still do the relevant block.

What REALLY brings this review down to 3 stars is the usability on kindle. GET THE ACTUAL BOOK!!! It is EXTREMELY difficult to use on kindle. There's no table of contents that you can click that will take you directly to the page you want. It also groups procedures, so it'll tell you what kind of anesthesia to use for a group of surgeries (for instances all surgeries below the knee) but you have to wait till it describes the last surgery in that group before it covers it. So you're stuck swiping and swiping and swiping waiting to find that part. It's just very very clumsy, difficult, and frustrating to use, and I've been using ebooks for a while. But I think that's the fault of Kindle, if it was an ibooks product, it'd be great.

Overall, GREAT text, horrible platform on kindle. BUY THE TEXT! You won't regret it.

A very specific book. the menus could be way better

It is a nice book to review that procedure you do not use to make so offen. I bought the digital version and found it to be a litle bit on the expensive side compared with a big textbook like Barash for example. The menus of the digital version could be way much better and it makes search of the desidred topic a litle bit slower than you wish, not to mention difficult. 3 stars is the best i could give. I searched the renal transplantation topic for example and found it to be a litle bit on the shy side. It's a book for those who already have lots of books and wish to have one that can point specificly to a certain kind of procedure. One thing that i like is the estimation of blod loss for each procedure.

Some love this book and some hate it, but from a nurse anesthetist prospective I find it useful. Despite working in the surgical/trauma ICU, I didn't have an in-depth knowledge of what was involved in each procedure and this book helped. Each procedure, or groups of smaller ones, had the information I needed about the surgery, positioning, and a complete anesthetic plan so that I didn't search through three or four other books trying to find that data. It's not perfect, and the anesthetic management may not be what's commonly done in your area, but it helped me formulate a rough plan so that I could extract specific information from other books or literature to fine tune my plan. In my opinion it's worth the money.

I mean...I like it as much as I could like a book about research design in psychology.......it's weirdly nerdily funny sometimes though? It isn't the worst research methods textbook I've ever read, I could actually stay awake while reading entire chapters which are full of relevant info.

Practical information for researchers

I've used Kazdin's book for several years now in planning my own research in the area of developmental psychopathology. I can see why others have criticized the book as being long-winded and somewhat dry - I wouldn't recommend reading the book cover-to-cover. However, the book is filled with practical advice on how to design research studies in the areas of clinical or abnormal psychology. I especially like Kazdin's discussion of the threats to internal and external validity that commonly plague research. I'd recommend this book as a "handbook" for researchers to reference when they need to look up specific topics or to plan a new project.

I commend the author on addressing the topic of rehabilitation of the injured singing voice. I am particularly impressed by the many applications for university level singing pedagogy and program administration. Vocal injury is a high risk for developing voices as well as professional singers, and injury prevention is best introduced during training. About the Author
Director of The Chicago Center for Professional Voice, and Associate Professor of Music Theater and Classical Voice at Western Michigan University, Minnesota-born soprano Karen Wicklund has sung leading roles with the San Francisco, Santa Fe, Lake George, Omaha and other American Opera companies. Dr. Wicklund holds undergrad music degrees from St. Olaf College, graduate music degrees from University of Michigan and Northwestern University, and a second Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Governors State University. A Good First Start

I think this book is a good first start in attempting to blend the professions of Speech Pathology (SLP) and Singing Teachers; however I agree with the reviewer "Mrs. PWR orchidmom" that readers, especially singing teachers, should "Be Careful". Another reviewer questioned who "Mrs. PWR orchidmom" was and what credentials she had to justify her impressions of the book. For that reason alone I will preface my statements by saying I have an undergraduate degree in vocal performance and a Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, with an emphasis in voice. This book uses many color pictures taken from a textbook commonly used in Anatomy and Physiology classes taught to speech pathology students. These pictures are very illuminating, however, having to pay to use copyrighted pictures from another textbook probably factors into the high cost of Dr. Wicklynd's book. I also agree that most well-trained SLPs will find the chapters on anatomy and physiology to be too simplistic. Alternately, based on the reviews I have read to date, many singing teachers don't realize how basic this information is, therefore, they don't know what they don't know. Therein lies the need for "CAUTION". I don't believe singing teachers should engage in vocal rehabilitation unless they are thoroughly trained in the anatomy and physiology of respiration, phonation, resonation, and articulation, and this book does not provide sufficient information for that level of competence. Also, unless singing teachers are licensed and prepared to be financially liable for any harm they can cause to a student's vocal health, they would be putting themselves at risk by engaging in vocal rehabilitation unless they are also working collaboratively with a licensed SLP. I am concerned that some readers may not realize this. That being said, I do appreciate the spirit of Dr. Wicklund for writing this book and believe that her goal was to address the lack of formal training concerning the workings of the voice provided to singers and future singing teachers in their academic programs. Dr. Wieklund is attempting to provide some of that information, however more is needed.

Invaluable Resource

Dr. Wicklund has provided voice teachers with an invaluable resource. The past several months I have used many elements in the this book including the hyper-functioning exercises, rehabilitative repertoire suggestions in addition to the clear information about the various types of voice disorders. Whether you are a voice teacher regularly working with voice disorders or someone who comes across this problem only once in awhile, eventually every teacher needs to know how to help a singer with some vocal problem. You will find many answers in this book.

Excellent Resource!

Dr. Wicklund's book in the most inclusive resource for voice teachers that I've come across. I especially enjoyed the clear, concise anatomical views- the best I've seen! Also enjoyed pouring through the Appendixes as much as the body of the book itself. They include everything from IPA charts and ETS Frequency Voice Ranges to professional Codes of Ethics for Voice Teachers.
