I'm so on the fence with this novel as Animal just didn't seem like the same man to me
By Nikki-Michelle
WARNING: This review may contain spoilers....
Okay, so where do I begin? I must say, I don't know. I'm so on the fence with this novel as Animal just didn't seem like the same man to me. Whereas there was once upon a time Animal was visceral and everything about the street I loved, this time around he seemed so docile. I'm not sure if K'wan was trying to do this, but I just found I didn't like Animal this time around as much as I did before. My thoughts on Animal 3: Revelations are as follows:

1. I lost all respect for Animal as soon as he left his wife and kids behind to go follow Red Sonja into the pits of hell. While I tried my best to understand the method to his madness, I just didn't. I mean, I understand the need to protect your daughter, but at the risk of your son and wife? Why didn't he think this through better? Why didn't he make sure they were locked away somewhere "only God could find them" before he made this ultimate decision? So many questions about his behavior, so little answers.
2. Flashbacks. We had so many darn flashbacks that it thoroughly started to annoy me and I felt cheated as a reader. I've been following Animal since the Hoodrat series so I know all that happened, I don't need a full blow by blow, in great detail, about what happened before. I mean, I understand the need to inform new readers of backstories, but not the whole darn thing word for word.
3. Cain and Abel had to be my two most favorite people in this book. They came in and showed the hell out. When I tell you Abel isn't to be messed with, that is no lie! I live for Cain and Abel at this point. K'wan, they need their own book because they even overshadowed Animal. They reminded me of the old Animal times two.
4. Ashanti was also a favorite of mine. I really appreciated the fact that the Black Lotus had taken him under her wings and hopefully we'll see him blossom into something that can't be touched unless it's by the hands of God himself. K'wan, Ashanti needs his own story as well. Great character development with Ashanti, Cain, and Abel.
5. Khallah aka the Black Lotus...what can I say about her other than she's a bad mama jama. She's thorough. She's lethal. She's smart. She can't be touched even on her bad day.
6. Ophelia, well she was a breath of fresh air for me. I love that K'wan has taken the time to develop these kick ass women who can hang tough. I can't wait to read more on her and see how the connection between her and someone from Animal's team play out.
7. Lilith, well I started off not liking her, but I can't deny that she is about her business and sad to say, I'm #TeamLilith. I hope she accomplishes everything she set out to do.
8. Red Sonja....??? And that's all I'll say about that.
9. Gucci....???? There has to be a method to the madness. That's all I'll say about that.
10. The last and final thing that annoyed the hell out of me was that it seemed the story ended right in the middle of the book. Like as soon as the getting got good, the good got ended. I must say, if this had been any other author, I would be done with them, no lie. But based on the strength that this is K'wan, I'm game for sticking around.

K'wan is an author who isn't afraid to take risks. His pen is lethal and no one can deny that he can write a story that will have your emotions all over the place. His characters are normally well- developed and he's one of the few writers who can have a plethora of characters in one book and not confuse the reader in the process. I was a bit disappointed in Animal 3: Revelations. However, that doesn't mean the story wasn't well written. For that, I give Animal 3: Revelations 3.75-stars.

Bring it back K'wan.
By MOE
The book was ALRIGHT. Definitely not just a page turner for me. I'm going to keep it 100% real couldnt relate at all like his other books they used to seem very realistic. I was disappointed because I have been reading K'wan books for years. I fell in love with the gritty street bangers he used to drop this book was not one. Seeing words like THOT I thought i was reading a book straight from facebook. Besides the twins Cain and Abel I really wasn't interested the book I always admired Kwans books because they always seemed very real to me the Animal books have definitely taken a different turn than I expected. Animal and Ashanti are always favorites please take them back to Harlem all this brotherhood tiger lily mess makes me roll my eyes not interesting at all. The sonja red character was doing the uptmost Animal was this on point character who could easily read a person he seemed very soft not edgy and hardcore. I definitely understand that Animal and Ashanti are developing as characters but they are losing their rawness especially Animal. I saw this coming in Animal II, nevertheless I love Animal Ashanti and the Twins I miss that hungry dog eat dog writing style from Kwan. Ghetto Bastard was very good Animal II and III not so much. Please go back in the lab like a mad scientist and come back dropping that classic street literature we need a masterpiece like the chronic. All this to be continued on going all overthe place ongoing saga is not good I need my old Kwan back don't know where he went but this isnt him at all! Hopefully Animal 4 will bring back that edge sometimes you have to take it back to where it all started. Still got love for the big homie but he lost me on this one.

I am shocked....
By Siren
Well it's me, Siren. I stepped away from writing reviews because the urban literary world took a toll on me. However, I have been a lover of Animal since he came into his own in the Hood Rat series. His character has impeccable depth and is anything but one dimensional. That being said, this book was a disappointment to read.

I have always praised K'wan for his ability to hypnotize a reader with his detailed plots an elaborate twists. In my opinion, his work has always been realistic and easy to relate to. In regards to Animal III, I do not share the same sentiments.

The book started off okay but there were a few typos. As the book progressed, there were more typos, which I found strange because K'wan's work has minimal, if any typos. I feel these mistakes should have been easily been caught by an editor. I did not care for all of the trips down memory lane. The book was 240 pages, which again was strange because K'wan drops lengthy novels. So with the shortened book, I felt I wasted time re-reading scenes from previous books. Those numerous flashbacks could have been used to incorporate more details about the love/hate triangle. If no, then add more background on Cain an Abel. I was also displeased with the scenes in the nightclub. I mean, Animal has ALWAYS went after those deserving of his wrath. All of the random bodies was not necessary, nor did it seem like something Animal would approve or overlook. Even as a young man, innocent blood troubled him. Then the run in with one time was not real. I had to re-read some scenes twice because I thought my eyes were deceiving me. I was like, "Really?? All these witnesses, people joining the chase, and this is the outcome?". This is not how Animal gets down and the work is beyond sloppy.

I was also tripping on the six degrees of separation with Ophelia. It was a twist but hard for me to swallow. Even the story behind why Sonja needed Animal, I don't know. Many aspects were so hard to digest.

I feel like this book was not written by K'wan but more so someone picked his brain an incorporated some of his thoughts. A3 was nothing like his other books and it hurt to read the book. K'wan's writing has always made me laugh, cry, curse, move furniture, and cheer for the good/bad guy. I've been on emotional rollercoaster with his work but I felt no emotion reading this book. It was like a blank stare the entire time. I want the K'wan who was starving to carefully construct A4 and hopefully consider all of the reviews that were not 5 stars. I had such high hopes for this book because 1. K'wan was writing it and 2. K'wan's writing do not disappoint. There was a long wait for this book, but I would have waited another year if A3 would have been written like the previous books.
